The word for the day is EXTREME meaning really different in some way! Can you draw something REALLY - big or small - loud or quiet - light or dark?
Hope to see you at the library tomorrow at EJ!
We use our head, our hands, and our heart to create works of ART! |
Working with the DRAW function on a Google Document I created this EXTREME cartoon of a giraffe. It is fun to use the computer as an art tool! I was trying to meet the challenge of the day from sketchbookskool.com posted in their #sbsadrawingaday

Don't forget our Open Innovation Center this Tuesday 7/18 from
9 to NOON. We will be decorating book covers - and maybe even hearing a story or two! Would you read a book that had this picture on the cover? Do you recognize the character? I looked at a picture very carefully and tried my best. I hope you like it! I'm still looking for ideas about what to draw next, so if you have any ideas - leave me a comment, send me an email, or come to the library this Tuesday. I'm hoping to see many of you there.
I did experiment with the Telligami app. I think it would be a fun way for students to create an artist statement when they complete a project. But I don't know if I can get it to display here on our blog page....hmmmm? Time to explore!
tellagami.com/gami/8BLI41/ Here it is in a link in the Text Box. And here it is as a button below...
And here it is as an embedded code!
Everyone had so much fun with Legos yesterday, I decided to make a quick sketch of My Man - Lego! It was fun to see how everyone showed off their creativity building their own lego landscapes. I think every landscape had a story behind it as well.
That is creativity in action! I started with a simple line drawing and then added some zentangle-like designs to it. The video I made ran for over 30 minutes - so I doubled its speed - and then doubled its speed again after uploading it to YouTube. With a little bit of cropping - I got it to just over 5 minutes.
Looking forward to seeing some of you at our EJ library tomorrow. We will be opening our Innovation Center so you can checkout some books and even get a Spirit Stick. I hope you will stop by tomorrow and give me some ideas about what to draw next. Keep on drawing... Making art with computers is fun. I just learned how to make a GIF.
A GIF is a picture that moves and repeats. I used a collage picture that I made and used in an animation. It doesn't look like this turtle is ever going to make it all the way across. I hope you make it over to our Open Innovation Center this next Tuesday from 9-NOON for another open library session. Worked on this sketch last night, from a photo taken while at the park with my grandsons. I loved the shape of the shadow that appeared underneath him and how his hair blew with the breeze as he swung back and forth. What are some of your favorite summer activities? Draw a picture of something you like to do with your friends and family. And if you get the chance share it with us. We would love to see what you are drawing.
Not every drawing in a sketchbook will be a finished drawing with color added. In fact, the majority of images you often find in professional artists sketchbooks are just quick sketches meant to capture a moment in time. This little girl was sitting on her Dad's shoulders, having a great time watching the parade go by.
Allow yourself to work for 5-10 minutes to see how quickly you can capture what you see in front of you. A parade is a great place to practice sketching because everyone is watching something else and you are free to watch what they are doing. Even if you work from photographs later (as I did for this picture) your drawings will have a lot of life in them. Happy 4th of July everyone! As you can see I'm still working on my dinosaur picture. I think I may use some watercolor to complete the background - so much is going on back there!
Another reason I have not finished it is because of some doctor's appointments and also enjoying spending some time with the family over this holiday weekend. But even with everything going on, I still find myself taking pictures and thinking about how to make some great drawings from what I see. I really enjoyed seeing some of our students and even Ms. Brennan from District Office, at the Carol Stream parade today. Even came away with some great swag - like this Expect Respect bracelet! Keep your eyes open, looking for fresh ideas and ...keep drawing my friends! |
